Want to learn jazz guitar but don’t know where to start?

Ever found yourself searching through books, DVDs and online forums only to find that the information is either overwhelming, hard to understand or lacks any substance?

Tired of paying for products that don’t give much in return, or getting vague responses from forums and online sites?

Then maybe finding the right jazz guitar teacher can help you get to where you want to be as a player.

While it may have been hard to find an experienced and capable jazz guitar teacher outside of big metropolitan cities in the past, today it’s easier than ever with the increase in internet connectivity and programs such as Skype and Gmail Video Chat.

Now, anyone, anywhere can take weekly, monthly or one-off video jazz guitar lessons with experienced players and teachers all over world, and never leave the comfort of their own homes.

Personalized Online Jazz Guitar Lessons

Because of these reasons, and the fact that I love teaching jazz guitar, I have begun offering online jazz guitar lessons through Skype or Gmail Video Chat  for beginner, intermediate and advanced level players.

Lessons can be done one-on-one, or you can team up with a friend for a duo lesson, which a lot of people enjoy if they are already practicing and performing with another bassist, pianist or guitarist.

Online jazz guitar lessons are taught using one of two free programs called Skype and Gmail Video Chat.

All you need is a computer, a guitar, a camera built in to your computer (99% of all computers have these nowadays) and an interest in becoming a better guitarist, improvisor and musician.

With Online Jazz Guitar Lessons You Get

  • PDF of all musical examples covered in the lesson in both tab and notation
  • Mp3’s of playalongs for any tunes covered in the lesson
  • Midi files of any progressions or other improvisational templates to practice with between lessons
  • Permission to record the video so that you can review it at anytime after the lesson

Matt Warnock Short Bio

Over the years I have taught jazz guitar lessons and jazz courses at the Leeds College of Music, University of Illinois, Interlochen Arts Camp, Western Michigan University, Western Illinois University and given jazz workshops throughout the U.S., Canada and Brazil.

During my 18 years as a professional jazz guitar teacher, I’ve found that everybody learns in different ways.

Because of this, I don’t have a standard “method” that I use to teach, each lesson is geared towards the students wants, needs and particular way of learning.

You can read more about my background by visiting the Matt Warnock About Page on my site.

Lessons can cover any jazz related topic that you have questions about or that you feel you need help understanding or getting under your fingers and into your ears.

  7. Ryan Husain, March 10, 2012:

Coming from a player who is a somewhat advanced (I’ve been studying jazz extensively for the past 11 years) after having studied with some true masters and educators of jazz guitar, both collegiately and privately, Matt’s EBook and website always provide me with new concepts I have yet to study and integrate into my own playing .He covers everything from bebop and swing to Latin and “modern” jazz guitar techniques. Godbless the internet and modern technology for allowing him to share his knowledge and wisdom and Godbless guys like Matt-even though he is a mentor of mine, he always treats me as his peer, and ALWAYS answers any questions I have about music. He never fails to stimulate my mind and whet my musical appetite to want to get more articulate and exrpessive (“better) and more knowledgeable in jazz, as I have dedicated my life to the artform.

helloes . i’ve been playing guitar for about 4 years now… I’d never really played jazz though and I’d like to start!

  11. John, August 4, 2013:

I’ve been playing for about 9 years, mostly teaching myself, and there are many things I’m missing. I would like to fill in all the gaps sub as learning and mastering the fretboard better, knowing scales better, and have a better ear. As well as all the other things needed to become a great guitarist. However, I’m not a jazz guitarist. In more of a blues and classic rock guitarist. I’m not sure if that makes a difference to you, but I would be very interested in lessons.

  12. Matt Warnock, August 4, 2013:

    Hey John

Sending you an email to connect about lessons. Thanks for asking about them!
